The BLUE New Deal

We’ll have saved the planet by the time they finish negotiating.

The US Democrat party has a bold new environmental conservation plan which they call “The Green New Deal.” Bully for them! A step in the right direction is better than no step at all. We understand this plan has been met with skepticism; that there are myriad interests at stake. We also understand that any party-based “plan” depends on the advancing party remaining in control and we understand that governments have been talking about pollution for over 50 years. We understand that our living environment is going to hell in a handbasket while the negotiations ramble back and forth. That is why we are advancing our own plan: The BLUE New Deal. Here it is (not subject to negotiation): 1. Any elected public employee who does not advance this plan will find him or herself unemployed at the first opportunity. 2. A tax to be imposed on single use oil-based plastic to pay for recycling together with a meaningful refundable bottle deposit. Single use oil-based plastic should be the container of last resort. 3. No income taxes on clean energy projects and extra incentives to oil and coal companies that invest in clean energy. 4. All coal power plants to close or convert to natural gas within 3 years with, in the case of a shutdown, all affected employees to receive full pay – through unemployment benefit increases – for up to 2 years and relocation, home buying, and education grants. [Hey, we are spending trillions because of a virus! It will only get worse if we don’t start taking care of our home.] 5. Higher incentives for electric vehicle purchases and conversions, with a planned phase-out of internal combustion passenger automobile engines within 5 years (existing gas-powered engines unaffected). New Deal means New Jobs and New Economy. It also means New Hope for Our Future. See the Blue – See the Truth
