But I love my car…

Guess what? We all do! We love being able to go where we want, when we want. And we love the privacy – alone in the car – listening to some tunes – surrounded by cool things and a view of other cars. So let’s get it straight: solving the air pollution problem CANNOT be done by telling people to give up their cars or buy expensive electric or hybrid cars. If we’re going to tackle this problem RIGHT NOW, we need clear heads, and we need to steer clear of the intentionally confusing byline spewed by the oil companies and their supporters. The world is on fire. Let’s put it out. Everybody who can needs to start driving less and everybody who is willing and able need to buy fuel-efficient low-emission vehicles for day-to-day driving. Everybody who can needs to work from home at least one day a week. If there is one thing that COVID taught, it is that when people do not commute to and from work, the air becomes clear again. These are all simple tasks; just do what you can do. Not forgetting of course, the people we elect and allow to stay in positions of authority, they need to be held accountable. So if they hem and haw and shuffle their feet and claim that clean air and water regulations cost jobs and raise prices, we all need to stop, say “Enough!,” and scream at the top of our lungs: “You were hired to solve the tough problems and if you can’t do it then get the hell out!”
